Licenses

Contractor License
If you are a contractor and do work in Kechi, you must have a current license on file with the city to ensure our residents receive quality work that is compliant with city code. There are four different types of contractor licenses: building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical. Licenses must be renewed with city every three years. For license approval, please supply the following documentation:
    1. Proof of general liability insurance issued to the City of Kechi for a minimum of $300,000; $100,000/$300,000 for bodily injury insurance; and $100,000 for property insurance
    2. Copy of Wichita License, Sedgwick County License, or Block Test
    3. Copy of State Certification (Building Contractor License, Class S only)
    4. Application fee
    5. Completed contractor license application
Alcoholic Beverages / Drinking Establishment License

You need this license if you create an establishment serving alcohol. See Chapter III of our city code for more information.

Permits

Always call before you start construction to ensure that the documentation and permit are correct for your project.

Building Permit
Building permits are required by the City of Kechi when there is a new building, addition, alteration, repair, replacement, relocation, or demolition of a residential or commercial building, garage, roof, siding, pool, spa, or structure. For permit approval, please supply the following documentation:
    1. Blueprint (may not apply to your project, call to verify)
    2. Application fee
    3. Completed building permit application

Plumbing Permit
Plumbing permits are required by the City of Kechi when residential, commercial, or patient medical gas plumbing work is needed. For permit approval, please supply the following documentation:
  1. Application fee
  2. Completed plumbing permit application
Electrical Permit
Electrical permits are required by the City of Kechi when there is a new, addition, repair, remodel, basement finish, hot tub, spa, or swimming pool for a single family, multi-family, business, medical/dental office, or hospital. For permit approval, please supply the following documentation:
  1. Application fee
  2. Completed electrical permit application
Mechanical Permit
Building permits are required by the City of Kechi when there is work done on heating appliances, air conditioning, refrigeration, roof tops, fireplaces, hood systems, or exhaust/dryers/ventilation. For permit approval, please supply the following documentation:
  1. Application fee
  2. Completed mechanical permit application

Sign permits are required by the City of Kechi when permanent, temporary, or portable signs are constructed, erected, enlarged, relocated, or structurally altered. Real estate and garage sale signs do not require sign permits unless they exceed 8 square feet. For permit approval, please supply the following documentation:
    1. Application fee
    2. Completed sign permit application
Zoning Permit
Zoning permits are required by the City of Kechi when there is construction on your property to ensure the correct easements and allowances are followed. For permit approval, please supply the following documentation:
    1. Application fee
    2. Completed zoning permit application
